Poway is the latest of 18 cities to celebrate soccer, arts and cultures when San Diego Football Club’s 2024 Chrome Ball Tour stops by on Saturday, Feb. 17.

The tour, which visited Oceanside on Jan. 27 and Escondido on Feb. 3, features artists, music, food vendors and soccer-related activities.

Football is at the heart of each of stop, allowing fans to experience various formats of the sport, including street soccer, beach soccer and e-sports competitions, according to San Diego Football Club officials.

The free Poway event will be held from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the North County Soccer Park, 14530 Espola Road. Highlights will include soccer tournaments — youth 4 vs. 4 players, co-ed 5 vs. 5 players and adult 6 vs. 6 players.

Paul Dewhurst, senior director of marketing for San Diego Football Club, said a 1 vs. 1 player tournament will also be held for children.

Poway artist Dave Persue will showcase his Bunny Kitty character at the event. A T-shirt with artwork that depicts the character standing on a soccer ball wearing boots, spurs and a cowboy hat will be sold, Dewhurst said.

Chrome is a principal color of San Diego Football Club, a soccer team that is scheduled to enter Major League Soccer in 2025 and play home matches at Snapdragon Stadium.

The tour is making stops in 18 San Diego County cities to bring together fans of soccer and football. The centerpiece of the events is the 8-foot chrome soccer ball presented by the San Diego Football Club, in conjunction with San Diego County Toyota Dealers.

“San Diego FC is making an effort to show communities that we are all very much woven into one,” Dewhurst said. “We want people to see that San Diego FC is a true representation of them and the city they live in.”

The event fosters unity, creativity and a shared passion that transcends the boundaries of sport, said Sebastian Morua, senior vice president of Brand and Community for San Diego Football Club.

“The tour not only celebrates the beautiful game but also seamlessly weaves together football, art, and San Diego’s rich cultural fabric,” Morua said in a statement. “We are excited for fans to celebrate with us and demonstrate how the spirit of the game resonates with the soul of our city.”

The chrome ball was designed by Richie Moon with 18 panels that feature the names of each of the 18 cities in San Diego County. Future tour stops include Santee on Saturday, March 2 and Carlsbad on Saturday, March 23. The yearlong tour will continue in Chula Vista, San Marcos, Vista, Del Mar, La Mesa, Solana Beach, Coronado, Encinitas, El Cajon, National City, Imperial Beach, Lemon Grove and San Diego.
