Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Law enforcement agencies of Uzbekistan stopped the illegal activities of tour operators in Tashkent and Qoqand, who promised citizens to organize their trip to the Hajj. This was reported by the press service of the State Security Service (SSS).

State Security Service officers detained a citizen in Chilanzar district of Tashkent, who promised to obtain the necessary documents for a pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia for a certain amount. He was detained while receiving US$8.5 thousand from a figurehead.

An employee of a travel company in Tashkent was also detained while receiving US$5.5 thousand for sending a person on a pilgrimage using fake documents.

Two employees of another Tashkent travel company were detained for fraud. They demanded US$8.5 thousand for help in organizing the pilgrimage, despite the bill having already been paid.

An employee of a travel company in Qoqand was detained while receiving US$10 thousand for sending two citizens of Uzbekistan to Saudi Arabia for pilgrimage.

Law enforcement officers also detained an employee of another travel agency in Qoqand when he received US$3 thousand for sending a local resident on a pilgrimage.

Criminal cases have been initiated in these cases and a preliminary investigation is underway.

The State Security Service reminds that the organization of the Hajj is carried out only by the Committee for Religious Affairs of Uzbekistan in cooperation with the Hajj Service of Saudi Arabia. Other organizations are not permitted to engage in such activities.
