RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC, 2/14/2024 — PBS North Carolina’s Rootle Roadster Tour, which offers free playful learning experiences to families within their community, announces its 2024 season. Currently in its third year, Rootle Roadster Tour events are designed to welcome families at easily accessible locations and connect them to much-needed resources and information from local community agencies and organizations. All activities and takeaways are free and aligned with literacy, physical, sensory, social-emotional and STEM curriculum.

“PBS North Carolina is excited to launch the 2024 Rootle Roadster Tour,” says Lauren McDowell Pyle, PBS North Carolina’s Director of Children’s Media and Education Engagement. “We are committed to connecting young learners and their grownups to engaging learning media as well as essential early childhood programs, early intervention services and resources within their community. With the support of partners from across the state and our Rootle Ambassadors, our commitment remains strong.”

This year’s Rootle Roadster Tour kicks off on Saturday, March 9, in downtown Raleigh. PBS North Carolina and partners will host a free block party for families outside Marbles Kids Museum. Families are invited to engage with interactive exhibits and PBS-themed activities in the Marbles courtyard and explore the community booths across the street in Moore Square. All activities in the Marbles courtyard, along Hargett Street and in Moore Square are free to the public.

Additionally, the IMAX theater at Marbles will present free screenings of the new PBS KIDS series Lyla in the Loop. Food trucks will be available for families to purchase lunch and snacks. Admission inside Marbles Kids Museum is not included. Advance tickets are required to visit Marbles and can be purchased at marbleskidsmuseum.org

“At the Rootle Roadster Tour, families can engage in playful learning with S.T.E.M, literacy, art and motor-skills activities and so much more,” says Jewel Lowe, Engagement Program Manager at PBS North Carolina. “We’re honored that Marbles, Moore Square and more than 20 local businesses and organizations will be on-site with us to create an unforgettable experience for families at our Raleigh block party.”

Marbles is a community-based nonprofit children’s museum with a mission to spark imagination, discovery and learning through play.

“Marbles is excited to collaborate with PBS North Carolina, Moore Square and other community partners at this year’s Rootle Roadster Tour,” says Robin Mangum, Learning Engagement Director at Marbles. “Unique, hands-on and inclusive play experiences and free screenings of PBS KIDS’ new animated series Lyla in the Loop on our giant IMAX screen will create a memorable day for all.”

Moore Square is a four-acre urban green space originally conceived as one of five public green spaces for the City of Raleigh.

“We’re thrilled to join forces with PBS North Carolina and Marbles for the Rootle Roadster Tour in the heart of downtown Raleigh, Moore Square,” says David Gill, Moore Square Director, City of Raleigh. “Utilizing our outdoor park space in tandem with Marbles, complemented by activities, education resources and the support of community partners on Hargett Street, we’re setting the stage for an extraordinary kickoff.”

The Rootle Roadster Tour continues through October with stops in Elizabeth City, Greenville and Asheboro. This year’s partners include Marbles Kids Museum, the City of Raleigh, the Museum of the Albemarle, the North Carolina Potato Festival, East Carolina University, the Asheboro Fall Festival and the North Carolina Zoo.
